|This is a 1989 Mk I Volkswagen Caddy, 1.6 petrol, upgraded to 5 speed using a Mk II gearbox. It has been extensively restored to its former glory, and now with better corrosion protection, and improved performance. It sailed advisory-free through its last MOT and is good to November 2018. It’s been garaged all winter and presently in weekend usage. Mileage currently reads 93,000 miles but this will climb slowly.
It has new, brilliant white, resilient 2k paint finish, all common rust-prone areas have been re-welded with galvanised steel and thoroughly protected, painted and wax-oyled.
It is modified to have external petrol tanks in the bed, which have a pressure-relief valve for safety. The rear axle has been ‘flipped’ to lower the rear, and the front suspension has been lowered on coil-overs. It also has a Weber 32/24 carburettor to increase performance, and a 5 speed gearbox from the MkII has been fitted to improve cruising at higher speeds.
The engine has been removed during restoration and decoked, rebuilt and painted. It has new distributer points and condenser, high-performance Magnecor leads and new plugs, with a K&N induction kit and a new timing belt.
The interior is largely original, with Recaro seats, a new rear window seal and newly painted floor and rear panel for protection. The list of new parts is far too long to list, so get in touch for any more information. Viewing and test driving invited! Thanks for looking.
