One of our aims for 2026 has been to visit a few different events and experience some new corners of the Volkswagen show scene. Mighty Dub Fest had been recommended to us by several people, so when the opportunity arose to attend, we decided it was time to see what all the fuss was about.

Held in the stunning surroundings of Alnwick Castle, Mighty Dub Fest has grown into one of the UK’s best-known VW and family-friendly festivals. Unlike many traditional weekend shows, the event runs from Thursday through to Sunday, offering visitors a longer festival experience packed with live music, entertainment, camping and, of course, Volkswagens.

As volunteers juggling work commitments alongside our club activities, four-day festivals can be a challenge. Fortunately, this year a series of coincidences meant we could make the trip north from South Yorkshire and join in the fun.

Setting Up at Alnwick Castle Pastures

We arrived on Thursday evening and were directed to our trade pitch in the main arena. Once the Volkswagen Owners Club of Great Britain stall was set up, we headed off to explore and enjoy some of the evening entertainment in the acoustic area.

Friday offered a more relaxed pace than we’re used to at most VW events. With the arena not opening until early afternoon and live music beginning later in the day, we even found time to explore Alnwick itself, something that rarely happens when we’re rushing between setting up and welcoming visitors at other shows.

It was a pleasant change and helped set the tone for a laid-back weekend.

Is Mighty Dub Fest a VW Show or a Music Festival?

As Friday afternoon rolled on, we found ourselves asking an interesting question.

Once the live music started on the main stage, the crowds began to gather, but visitors to our stand were initially few and far between. Looking around the arena, it felt more like a music festival than a traditional Volkswagen show.

For a club like ours, which exists to celebrate Volkswagen ownership and enthusiasm, that did raise a few concerns. Had we arrived expecting something different?

Thankfully, those worries didn’t last long.

As people settled into the festival atmosphere and began exploring the wider event site, we saw a steady stream of visitors arriving at our stand. We enjoyed plenty of conversations about Volkswagens, met existing members and welcomed enquiries from potential new members.

Fantastic Entertainment Throughout the Weekend

One thing that stood out throughout the entire event was the quality and variety of the entertainment.

From Britpop favourites and 1980s singalong classics to folk-inspired acts and more alternative performers, there was something for everyone. Being positioned near the main stage gave us a front-row seat to much of the entertainment, and it certainly helped create a fantastic atmosphere across the weekend.

By Saturday evening, however, we were still wondering when the Volkswagens would take centre stage.

Sunday Belonged to the Volkswagens

Then Sunday morning arrived.

We woke to the unmistakable sound of air-cooled engines as classic Volkswagens began rolling into the main arena. As we stepped out from behind our stall, we were greeted by a sight that instantly reassured us that Mighty Dub Fest hadn’t forgotten its roots.

The show field quickly filled with an impressive variety of Volkswagens, from beautifully restored classics to cherished campers and carefully modified modern models.

We spent the early part of the morning wandering among the display vehicles, chatting with owners and admiring the craftsmanship on show. The sunshine helped too, with polished paintwork sparkling throughout the arena.

For anyone wondering whether Mighty Dub Fest still delivers on the Volkswagen side of things, the answer is a definite yes.

Our Verdict on Mighty Dub Fest 2026

Mighty Dub Fest isn’t quite the same as many traditional Volkswagen shows.

It’s a broader festival experience, blending live music, family entertainment, camping and Volkswagen culture into one event. At first, that took us by surprise, but by the end of the weekend, we understood why so many people had recommended it.

The atmosphere was relaxed, the entertainment was excellent, and when Sunday arrived, there were plenty of fantastic Volkswagens to enjoy.

Would We Return to Mighty Dub Fest?

The journey from Yorkshire is a long one, and the extended format can make fitting the event around work commitments a challenge. However, if circumstances allow and the stars align again in the future, we’d be more than happy to find ourselves back on the Alnwick Castle pastures.

After all, discovering new events and new people is part of what makes the Volkswagen scene so enjoyable.
